Northern Hospitality & Food Consulting ("NHFC", "we") runs nhfc.ca. This page explains what we collect when you use the site, why, who else handles it, and how to ask us to see, correct or delete it. Questions go to info@nhfc.ca or (226) 336-9954.
What we collect when you send an enquiry
When you use the project application or the contact form, we keep:
- what you type: your name, email, phone number, business name, project details and message;
- the planning cost range the application showed you, if it showed one;
- details your browser sends with the form: your IP address, the page you sent it from, and your browser and device type;
- your approximate location and internet provider (city, province or state, country, and network operator), worked out from your IP address;
- how you first arrived on the site during that visit: the referring website, any campaign tags in the link (such as
utm_source), and ad-click identifiers from Google or Meta if the link carried them.
Why
- to reply to you and prepare the project review you asked for;
- to keep automated spam out: the IP address, location, network and timing of a submission are how we tell a person from a bot;
- to learn which channels bring enquiries, so we know where to spend on marketing.
How your location is worked out
We look your IP address up in a geolocation database (DB-IP's free edition) stored on our own server. Your address is not sent to anyone else to do this. The result is approximate, usually to the city, and it can be wrong, especially on mobile networks and VPNs.
Who else handles it
- Postmark delivers the email that tells us about your enquiry, and the acknowledgement we send you.
- Our customer management system receives a copy of your enquiry so we can follow it up. It is our own system, not a third-party marketing list.
- Railway hosts the website and the stored enquiries. Its servers may be outside Canada, including in the United States, so your information may be subject to the laws of those places.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertising networks.
If you are only browsing
- We do not set cookies for visitors. We count page views per page and per referring website, as daily totals with no identifier attached, so they cannot be traced to you.
- The project application saves your answers as a draft in your own browser, so a closed tab does not lose them. That draft stays on your device; "Clear it" under the form removes it.
- How you arrived (see above) is held in your browser only until you close the tab, unless you send a form.
- Fonts and images are served from nhfc.ca itself; loading a page does not contact Google or any other third party.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept as business records for as long as we need them to work with you and to meet our legal obligations. Submissions we identify as automated spam may be deleted at any time. You can ask us to delete yours whenever you like.
Your rights
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) you can ask what information we hold about you, have it corrected, withdraw your consent, or have it deleted. Email info@nhfc.ca and we will answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
When what we collect or who handles it changes, this page changes too, with a new date at the top.
